  • What is scrip?
Scrip is similar to a coupon or gift certificate. Scrip coupons can be used just like cash in a specific store or place of business.

    How does taxicab scrip work?
Residents of Vallejo who are 65 years of age or older, or who have a disability as defined under the Regional Transit Discount Card Program (see attachment) may purchase scrip booklets from the City of Vallejo.

Each booklet contains $10 worth of scrip. The City charges $5 for each booklet (in other words, eligible users obtain a 50% discount on each scrip booklet).

The scrip coupons are accepted as cash for any taxi trip taken by an eligible user within the City of Vallejo.

Who is eligible to buy and use scrip?
    - Vallejo residents who are 65 years of age or older.
    - Vallejo residents who have a disability as defined under the Regional Transit Discount Card Program.

Will I be required to show proof of residency, age or disability?
Please be prepared to show verification that you live within Vallejo when purchasing scrip.

In addition, if you look young for your age, or if your disability is not immediately apparent, you may be asked for proof of age, or verification of your disability.

Medicare cards, DMV disabled placard documentation (not the placard itself), disabled veteran documentation, or a valid Regional Transit Discount Card are the only acceptable forms of proof of disability.

Can I buy as many scrip booklets as I want?
No, you are limited to the following:
    - No more than ten (10) booklets per visit.
    - No more than ten (10) booklets per week.
    - No more than twenty (20) booklets per month.

No more than 3,000 booklets will be made available for the program each month (because of budgetary limitations). When sales reach 3,000 booklets in any one month, no more booklets will be sold until the first day of the next month.

This is a lifeline service -- please purchase no more than you will need and use each month so that there will be enough scrip for everyone wishing to utilize this program.

Which taxicab companies may I use?
You may utilize any taxicab company holding a City of Vallejo business license. Currently, there are two such taxicab companies.

    They are as follows:
    - Vallejo City Cab : (707) 643-3333
    - Vallejo Yellow Cab : (707) 642-4421

I am a resident of American Canyon or Benicia, can I purchase scrip?
Vallejo’s taxicab scrip program is available only to Vallejo residents. Please contact your respective City offices regarding taxi subsidy programs that may be available within your city.

I am a Vallejo resident, but I want to ride to Fairfield, can I use scrip for this trip?
Scrip is a lifeline service -- and may only be used for trips taken by a Vallejo resident that originate in Vallejo and stay within the immediate area. Scrip may not be used for trips outside the area such as to Fairfield, Concord, Sacramento, etc.

Is the taxicab driver obligated to make change when I pay with scrip?
YES, Just as when you pay for a taxi trip with cash, you are entitled to change should any be due to you.

May I tip the driver when I am paying with scrip?
YES, When you feel that the service provided by the driver has been good, you may tip the driver with either cash or scrip.

Am I required to hand over my scrip booklets to the taxicab driver so that they may remove the coupons?
ABSOLUTELY NOT, Scrip is considered the same as cash while you are riding in a Vallejo taxicab, please treat it as such. If you are uncomfortable with allowing the driver to remove scrip from your book, keep scrip within your possession.
